Colloquium marking the 50th anniversary of the murder of Amílcar Cabral, part of the celebrations of 50 years of April 25.
Amílcar Cabral and the History of the Future
Marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Amílcar Cabral, this colloquium aims to discuss its political, theoretical and cultural influence, evoke the legacies of colonial war and liberation struggles and analyze how this past continues to echo in the contemporary challenges facing Portuguese society.
The Opening Session of the event will be attended by Augusto Santos Silva, António Sousa Ribeiro, Fernando Rosas, Joana Dias Pereira, Bruno Sena Martins and Marga Ferré.
The program of day 13 will also include in the morning the tables "The colonial war and liberation struggles: memories and silences", with Miguel Cardina, Carlos Cardoso, Patrícia Godinho Gomes, Cláudia Castelo and moderation of Inês Nascimento Rodrigues and "Amílcar Cabral: paths of life and living memory", with Iva Cabral, José Neves, Leonor Pires Martins, Julião Soares Sousa, José Pedro Castanheira and moderation of Victor Barros. The afternoon will begin with a conference by Pedro Pires, former Prime Minister and former President of the Republic of Cape Verde and President of the Amílcar Cabral Foundation, followed by the screening of the film "The return of Cabral", with further debate by Filipa César, Sana na N' Hada and Diana Andringa (moderation of Sumaila Djaló).
On Saturday the 14th, the sessions focus on the following topics: "Amílcar Cabral: textos", with Ângela Coutinho, Mustafah Dhada, Roberto Vecchi and moderation by Rita Lucas Narra; "Amílcar Cabral: international dimensions of the fight", with Rui Lopes, Aurora Almada Santos, Teresa Almeida Cravo and Vincenzo Russo, moderated by Pedro Aires Oliveira; "Amílcar Cabral: politics, culture and utopia", with Miguel de Barros, Rui Cidra, Sílvia Roque and Rede Wilson Lima and moderation of João Mineiro and the table "Decolonization: meanings and challenges", with Beatriz Gomes Dias and Bruno Sena Martins (marta lança moderation).

The Closing Party will take place at B.Leza, from 22h, with a concert by Prétu (xullaji's new project), where he joins samples of African references and electronic rhythms to messages associated with the themes of decolonization, pan-Africanism and Afro-futurism and the DJ set "Abel Djassi" (Mama Demba and Inês R.).
The organization is in charge of the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (through the CROME project, funded by the European Research Council, and the initiative "50 years of April"), the Institute of Contemporary History (NOVA FCSH) and associate laboratory IN2PAST and the cultural association Cultra (via transform network and initiative "April is Now").
