Rui Namorado, a retired professor from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra and a former member of Parliament for the Socialist Party, died yesterday at the age of 83.
Rui Namorado was a member of parliament for the Socialist Party between 1995 and 1999, during the seventh parliamentary term. Actively involved in the student movements in Coimbra in the 1960s, he was expelled for two years from the same university where he later went on to teach and coordinate the Centre for Cooperative Studies and the Social Economy. A writer, poet and essayist, he was on the editorial board of the magazine "Vértice" from 1964 to 1975. He graduated in Law and gained a Master's degree in Legal and Business Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. He later obtained a doctorate in Economic Law, specialising in Cooperative Law, from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, where he graduated.
