In the context of the launch, on April 8, of the most recent work by historian Luís Reis Torgal, a founding member of the 25 de Abril Documentation Centre and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century, entitled Quatro Personagens à procura de Abril (Four Characters in Search of April), we would like to focus today on one of the characters referred to in the book's title, Carlos Fabião, with whom the author had contact and followed the endless paths of decolonisation and the construction of democracy.
Luís Reis Torgal did his military service as an ensign in Guinea-Bissau between 1968 and 1969, under the direct leadership of the then Major Carlos Fabião, later a member of the Armed Forces Movement (MFA) and protagonist of the coup of 25 April 1974, and the two maintained a friendly relationship which resulted in a correspondence. We are pleased and honoured to announce, 51 years into our Revolution, that this archive has today been donated to the 25 de Abril Documentation Centre.
