Norwegian Einar Braathen was in Lisbon in the summer of 1974 and then in Braga during the "hot summer" of 1975. At the time he was still a young high school student in Norway. During the attack on the PCP headquarters in Campo da Vinha in August, he was hit by several bullets. This episode made international headlines, especially in Scandinavia. His story is told in the book "Quando Portugal ardeu", by journalist Miguel Carvalho, published by Oficina do Livro.

In this documentary, Einar returns to Portugal 50 years later and analyses what happened in the 1974-75 period and the current threats to democracy in the country and in Europe in general. The documentary includes interviews with Vasco Lourenço, Fernando Rosas, Francisco Louça, Raquel Varela and Isabel Soares, among others.

Einar Braathren is a research professor at Oslo Metropolitan University and has published several studies on Portuguese-speaking countries, in particular Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal.

Anne Kjersti Bjorn is a Norwegian director and screenwriter and the author of films such as 'Young Beautiful and Gifted' (2001), 'The Dream of Olympics' (2016) and 'When the Woman Came to the World' (2023).

The film was shown at this year's FANTASPORTO.
