Under the motto — adapted from the commemorative silkscreen print for 25 April 1974, series #1 of 2026, by Francisco Elias — “One Carnation at a Time | 25 April Forever”, CD25A-UC kicks off the celebrations marking the 52nd anniversary of the April Revolution and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Portuguese Constitution.
The initiative promotes the sharing of scientific and cultural content, with the aim of enhancing and broadening access to its documentary and photographic collections.
This April, we reflect on two essential dimensions of the freedom won: freedom on the streets and freedom under the law.
The first is brought to life through the digital presentation of two previously unpublished photographic archives, one of which was donated by and created by Gérald Gigon, offering a fresh perspective on the Carnation Revolution, the democratic transition process and the social dynamics of that period.
Gérald Gigon, who was living and working in Portugal at the time of the 25 April Revolution, photographed the revolution in Lisbon and became deeply involved in the ideals that marked that period, continuing to document the revolutionary process and agrarian reform throughout the country.
