Recalling September 1974, we highlight a summary of photographic documents on the first attempt to seize power following the 25th of April, putting an end to the revolution and democratisation, by the then President of the Republic, António de Spínola. Spínola's ‘Silent Majority’ orchestrated a street demonstration with military support, conspiring in favour of the resignation of Prime Minister Vasco Gonçalves, the dissolution of the MFA Coordinating Committee, the declaration of a state of siege and the strengthening of presidential powers.
